Dorking Out On Dan
I am a proud Steely Dan fan. Or, more specifically, a fan of the first three albums that established them as this smart, weird new band, using jazzy piano chords and sharp lyrics to hook nerds like me. When they got more jazzy after those three records, I got less interested.
The always fantastic Aquarium Drunkard featured some live Dan tracks last week and I’ve spent all morning geeking out on them.
Exploring Aquarium Drunkard is sort of like hanging out with your hip bootlegging friend while digging through your parent’s record collection in the basement. There’s new stuff from emerging artists, live and rare tracks, and gems from old favorites (be sure to listen to the Arthur Lee stuff while you’re there.)
